What Is Happening in Summerlin, Henderson and Las Vegas This August
Tom and Serena have called Las Vegas home for more than twenty-seven years, most of them in Summerlin. The August heat still catches people off guard, and it pushes the best plans to early mornings and after dark. Tom has ridden the Cottonwood Valley and Blue Diamond trails many weekends over the years, and the two of them have been to outdoor theater under the stars at Spring Mountain Ranch more times than they can count. Here are eight things worth putting on the calendar this month, all off the Strip and all easy to reach from Summerlin, Henderson, or North Las Vegas.
Raiders Training Camp
The only public practice this camp still open to fans. Watch the Raiders under the lights at Allegiant, tickets from five dollars, proceeds support the Raiders Foundation.
Aviators Schedule
Twelve home games against Tacoma and Sacramento, walkable from most of Summerlin. Easiest weeknight out in the neighborhood, with evening first pitches to dodge the afternoon heat.
The Andrews Brothers
Super Summer Theatre stages this WWII-era musical comedy under the stars at the base of Red Rock Canyon. Pack a picnic and a blanket, the mountains keep it noticeably cooler.
First Friday Arts District
Over one hundred local artists, live music, and food trucks fill the Arts District once a month. Free to attend and a favorite first stop for anyone new to Las Vegas culture.
Tuesday Night MTB Ride
A no-drop night mountain bike ride through Cottonwood Valley once the sun starts to drop. All paces welcome, and it is one of the best ways to beat the August heat on two wheels.
Sunday Morning Road Ride
An early group road ride out of Summerlin timed to beat the heat, with a route that suits a range of paces. A great way to see the neighborhood before the day warms up.
Summerlin Farmers Market
Fresh produce and local vendors every Saturday morning, before the day heats up. The anchor of the weekend routine for most of Summerlin, running through November.
Uncommons Farmers Market
Same vendors and team behind the Summerlin and Green Valley Ranch markets, in a walkable district close to home. An easy Sunday morning stop, just minutes away.
